The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury is one of this country’s most successful large-scale independent theatres, with a 1,200-seat Main House, a 150-seat Studio and The Marlowe Kit, an 800 year-old building which we plan to transform into a learning centre and heritage experience.
We present a year-round programme of national touring productions across a range of artforms including theatre, dance, opera and music. Since becoming a self-funding independent charitable trust in 2018 we have begun to develop a more mixed economy, with a 5-year plan to commission and produce work at all scales alongside the presented programme.
Supporting artists, engaging with our communities and developing the creative lives of the next generation are central to our mission to be the engine house for the performing arts in our region and to shape the spirit of Kent.
We are seeking a dynamic and inspirational Director of Learning & Participation with a proven commitment to transforming the lives of young people and communities through the performing arts. You will be joining a high-achieving team and will have the opportunity to shape the work of the department to respond to the exciting opportunities ahead and to deliver on The Marlowe’s commitments to young people in and outside of formal education and to our communities.
You will have demonstrable experience of leading a Learning team in an arts context and you will relish the opportunity to collaborate with our resident, associate and visiting companies and the wider education and charitable sectors in Kent.
We want to work with people who are passionate about their work, resilient in the face of any challenge that comes their way and supportive of their colleagues.
The Marlowe is an inclusive employer. We value difference and recruit by merit based on fair and open competition. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and from all sectors. We are particularly keen to hear from Black and Asian candidates, candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds, and those who identify as D/deaf or disabled.
We are a Creative Green organisation and are committed to taking action on climate change and environmental sustainability.
