It’s an exciting time to be joining Dover District Council as we expand our Dover Port Health Authority (DPHA) service now the UK has left the European Union.
The work of the DPHA is vital to the smooth running of the border at Dover, and to the protection of food safety and public health in the UK.
We ensure the smooth flow of safe food through Europe’s busiest ferry port - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - and onto the shelves of shops and supermarkets across the country.
And you could play a key role in shaping this expanded operation!
We’re recruiting for a wide range of roles, from port health and technical officers, to operational managers, team leaders, and administrative and business support staff.

We are looking for two Port Health Team Managers who will have a unique opportunity to help shape the service. One Team Manager will lead on the Technical and Operations side of the facility and the other on Finance and HR.
Reporting into the Head of Service, you will all work together with the Port Health Team Leaders to develop the service and its staff to maximise performance, resulting in a high level of customer service. You will be responsible for procuring, managing and monitoring external contracts to support the service delivery.
The Team Managers will manage the day to day running of the facility, ensuring that the operations are fully compliant and auditable in line with requirements set out by DEFRA/FSA and other relevant government departments and agencies. You will encourage a culture of continuous improvement constantly looking at ways to improve the service.
In addition you will attend, contribute and manage relevant meetings producing the required information and guaranteeing that queries are followed up and resolved in a timely manner. You will participate in the development and review of the service’s annual service plan, ensuring that it is consistent with the council’s corporate plan and corporate objectives, audit reports and any other service reviews.
One Manager will lead on the technical and operations functionality of the facility so that the functions are operating consistently and effectively, they will oversee records management, legislative changes, equipment suitability and availability and provide all levels of advice and support to Portfolio Holders, Councillors, colleagues and partners on issues relevant to assigned functional areas.
One Manager will lead on the finance and HR aspects of the facility including recruitment, retention, engagement and well being of our employees. In addition they will manage all aspects of the operational budget.
These roles are office based, however, in the current pandemic environment you may be required to work from home initially until July. You will provide cover for each other and deputise for the Head of Service when required. It is important that suitable candidates have the ability to work across the range of shifts from time to time in order to resolve, address and implement issues pertaining to matters outside of office Essential Requirements
