Canterbury City Council’s Museums & Galleries service is working in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery to offer an exciting internship opportunity to learn more about working as part of a museums and galleries programming team.
Established in 1856, the National Portrait Gallery is home to the largest collection of portraits in the world and celebrates the lives and achievements of those who have influenced British history, culture and identity.
As part of a major renewal project called Inspiring People, designed to transform the way the National Portrait Gallery presents, interprets and shares their Collection, they are working with partners from across the UK as part of their transformation, to explore questions around identity and meaning to audiences today.
We are looking for an enthusiastic intern with an interest in portraits, history and people to help our partners as part of their programme with the National Portrait Gallery. This is a varied role that will help you gain an understanding of the sector and provide a greater insight into fascinating national and local collections.
You will be based at the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge in Canterbury, but will have the opportunity to connect up to the National Portrait Gallery, London and be part of the wider network of interns at all partner venues. You will receive training and mentoring throughout the internship.
Further information about the National Portrait Gallery and the National Skills Sharing Partnership Programme can be found at www.npg.org.uk.
